At CrossFit Indiana, we believe the best coaches do more than give advice. They listen, understand the struggle, and help people keep moving forward when life gets hard.

That is exactly what Karen brings to our nutrition coaching team.

Karen’s passion for helping others comes from her own experience. She knows what it feels like to struggle with food, weight, confidence, and the belief that lasting change might not be possible.

She also knows what can happen when you finally decide to begin.

From Over 300 Pounds to Taking Control of Her Health

Karen began her weight-loss journey approximately four years ago. At the time, she weighed well over 300 pounds and recognized that her relationship with food needed to change.

“I used food as everything except what it was intended for,” Karen shared. “I struggled with sugar, carbs, junk food, chips, cakes, fried foods, and eating just to eat instead of eating to fuel my body.”

She began focusing on eating mostly whole, nutritious foods and gradually changing the habits that had followed her for much of her life. Since beginning that journey, Karen has lost an incredible 140 pounds.

But like many people working toward a health or weight-loss goal, Karen eventually reached a plateau.

That was when she decided to add fitness back into her routine and joined CrossFit Indiana.

Starting CrossFit at 55

Walking into a CrossFit gym can feel intimidating at any age. Karen started at 55.

“I had been heavy all my life,” she said. “Starting CrossFit at 55, who does that?”

Karen did.

She quickly discovered that CrossFit was not reserved for young athletes or people who were already in shape. Every workout could be adjusted to meet her where she was, allowing her to build strength, confidence, and consistency at her own pace.

Fitness helped Karen continue changing physically, but the transformation went far beyond the number on the scale.

“My health journey helped me become more confident,” she explained. “I found a version of myself that I didn’t know was there.”

Now, Karen wants to help other people discover that same strength within themselves.

Coaching With Experience, Empathy, and Support

Karen understands that changing your nutrition is rarely as simple as being handed a meal plan.

Food habits are connected to stress, emotions, family routines, busy schedules, celebrations, setbacks, and years of learned behavior. Real life does not stop just because someone decides to pursue a goal.

That is why Karen’s approach is centered on listening, empathy, and practical support.

“I’ve been there,” she said. “I understand what it’s like to have struggles with food. I want to help guide people from where they are to where they want to be.”

Karen is not expecting anyone to be perfect. She knows that progress is not always a straight line. Her own journey has included plateaus, surgery, unexpected setbacks, and moments when she needed to regroup.

“The journey you start is going to evolve as your life changes and as you change,” Karen explained. “I’m committed to being there when someone has those struggles, those changes, or even just a bad day.”

Nutrition coaching provides more than information. It gives you someone in your corner who can help you adjust the plan, recognize your progress, and keep going when motivation fades.

Helping People Experience More Than Weight Loss

Karen understands how exciting it can be to see the number on the scale go down, body fat decrease, or muscle mass increase. But she also knows those numbers are only part of the story.

Her goal is to help people feel stronger, healthier, more confident, and happier with who they are becoming.

“I know what it’s like to be so unhealthy and to get to where I am now,” Karen said. “I want other people to be able to experience that freedom.”

Whether your goal is to lose weight, build muscle, improve your energy, develop a healthier relationship with food, or simply feel more in control of your choices, Karen is ready to help you take the next step.

Most importantly, she wants you to know that you have not waited too long.

“It is never too late to start.”
