The holidays are here! A season full of family gatherings, delicious food, and celebration. While it’s one of the best times of the year, it can also throw off your normal routine. Between travel, school breaks, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy to lose momentum.

But here’s the truth: staying healthy through the holidays is possible. With a few smart strategies and the support of your CrossFit Indiana community, you can enjoy the season and still feel strong, balanced, and proud of your progress.

Here’s how to stay on track and thrive this holiday season.

1. Keep Moving: Aim for 3 Workouts Each Week

Your training routine doesn’t have to fall apart just because your schedule looks different. Even during the busiest weeks, aim to get into the gym at least three times per week. Those workouts will help you manage stress, boost your energy, and stay connected to your goals.

If you’re traveling or can’t make it into the gym, don’t stress. Ask your coach for a simple at-home workout you can do with little to no equipment. It’s not about perfection; it’s about keeping your body moving and your momentum going.

Remember: something is always better than nothing.

2. Enjoy Holiday Meals, But Be Mindful

Holiday meals are meant to be enjoyed, not stressed over. Instead of restricting yourself, try to make balanced choices:

  • Fill your plate with protein, veggies, and some fruit.
  • Use the plate method 1/2 veggies, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carbs.
  • Choose one or two treats you really love, and savor them guilt-free.
  • Stay hydrated; your energy and mood will thank you.

When you focus on balance, not perfection, you’ll feel satisfied without overdoing it.

3. Take a Walk After Big Meals

After that big family dinner, grab your coat and take a walk with friends or family. Walking after eating helps digestion, keeps blood sugar steady, and clears your mind. You can decrease your blood sugar by up to 21% just by a post meal walk!

Aim to hit around 8,000 steps a day throughout the holidays, whether it’s walking the dog, shopping downtown, or strolling through Christmas lights. Small, consistent movement adds up in a big way.

4. Don’t Let One Slip-Up Derail You

Missed a workout? Ate one too many cookies? No big deal. What matters most is what you do next.

Get back to your normal habits as soon as you can. Drink some water, plan your next workout, and move on.

At CrossFit Indiana, we’re here to help you stay accountable. Keep showing up, check in with your coach, and lean on the community when things feel off track. Consistency, not perfection, is what builds real results.

5. Why Staying Consistent Matters

Maintaining healthy habits through the holidays pays off:

  • More energy so you can actually enjoy all that holiday hustle.
  • Less stress, because workouts are a great mental reset.
  • Better digestion and recovery through regular movement.
  • Momentum heading into the new year, so you don’t have to “start over” in January.

Think of every workout as a small deposit in your future health.
